SIDEWAYS 2010 PHILADELPHIA REGIONAL RESULTS
10 Racers participated in the 2010 Sideways Philadelphia Regional championship. The weather and NFL seemed to keep several people away from the race, but it was a fun event regardless.
The race was run with no-magnet Racer Sideways DP cars, allowing most Slot.IT parts. Handout Slot.IT orange endbell motors, pre-tested to confirm within a similar RPM range were installed, as well as handout Slot.IT silicone tires . After tech inspection, the race began, format was round robin, 10 minute segments @12v on each of the 4 lanes of the banked Carrera road course.
In the first segment, Robert Holt got off to a promising start, running 85 laps on the inside gutter white lane, shortest distance around. There were a couple other drivers with hotter practice times, so the first segment was not necessarily and indicator of the outcome. One of them, Sam Barbose, was in hot pursuit, putting up consecutive 83 lap runs in blue and white lanes.
Steady Bob Kuss was the first to complete the 4 lane rotation, and put up 318 laps. That was the mark to beat until James Drayton from Maryland ran a consistent 4 segments, finishing with 320 laps to take the lead.
But then Dave Davis, who had posted the fast lap time in pre-race practice, stepped up and immediately posted the high lap total of the day for outside gutter red lane, with 81 laps. He didn't stop there, putting up 84 laps on each of the remaining lanes, to take the lead with 333 laps.
Dave and Tom Pintchuck were the only drivers to get at least 80 laps on each lane, and it was up to Tom, Holt, and Barbose to try to catch Dave. That proved to be too much to ask for, as Dave's lap total held up, and he's the 2010 Sideways Philadelphia Regional champion. The top 4 finishers qualify for the Sideways North America Final Championship in Philadelphia on 11/21/10. Since Holt, Drayton and Barbose had previously qualified, additional racers advancing to the Final are Dave Davis, Tom Pintchuck, Bob Kuss, and Chris Chubbuck.
As always, thanks to Rich Shanfeld of Great Traditions for putting on another fun event. In addition to trophies for the top 4 finishers, he generously awarded brand new Racer Sideways cars to each participant. One would do well to attend the next Great Traditions race event...
