SCX LMP 2010 PHILADELPHIA REGIONAL RESULTS
Fourteen racers participated in the 2010 SCX LMP Philadelphia Regional Championship held at Great Traditions in Philadelphia, PA. Eligible SCX cars were the Audi R10, Peugeot 908, and Pro Audi R8. Handout RX-42B motors and Indy Grip silicone tires were used. 10 minute segments were run on each of the 4 lanes of the Carrera track.
10 lap qualifying was done to seed the drivers, with Sam Barbose taking top honors, followed by Dave Hoffman, Dave Davis, Martin Dixon and Frank Salerno. The faster qualifiers were seeded in the middle of the field so they could race adjacent to each other, while the lower qualifying times were seeded at the beginning and end of the racing lineup for same reasons.
First driver to complete the four segments was Chip Bell, finishing with 300 laps, nice job especially considering it was his first time on this track. A couple of rotations later, Bob Kuss took the lead with 305 laps. One of the top qualifiers, Martin Dixon, rotated in and unfortunately had a gear mesh issue, causing him to go to the pits and miss most of the first two segments. Frank Salerno and Don Johnson also suffered through some mechanical issues that affected their outcome, but to their credit they finished the race.
Following Martin was Dave Hoffman, who set the high lap record for the day on outside gutter red lane with 78 laps. Next lane was yellow, and he didn't let up, setting another high lap total for the day of 81 laps.
While Dave Hoffman was setting a fast pace, Sam Barbose was right with him, equalling Dave's lap totals on the first two lanes, then continuing with fast, consistent driving to finish with 321 laps and what looked to be a commanding lead at the time.
Dave Davis followed Sam, and showed he was right there with the leaders, culiminating with high lap total of the day for any lane on inside gutter white, 82 laps. His total laps were just one shy of the lead though, and as rotations continued, Sam's total held up for the win.
The top 4 finishers received trophies, and the top 3 received a custom liveried SCX Nascar, specially produced for Great Traditions, sure to be a collector's item. The top 4 also qualified for the 2010 SCX LMP North America final to be held at Great Traditions on 12/4/10.
Since Robert Holt and Robert Kuss already qualified for the N.A. finals in prior regional races this year, Dan McCollum who finished 6th, joined Sam Barbose, Dave Davis and Dave Hoffman as qualifiers.
Special thanks to Rich Shanfeld for creating these championship races, and for his usual generosity and support. Also thanks to Doug Bruestle who assisted with hosting and running the race, as well as Sam Barbose, Sr., who as usual helped in too many ways to mention, and helped keep things in order.
Congrats to the winners, but also to Chip Bell, Frank Salerno, and JJ Artfitch who had never run on this track before, and JJ had never run in a regional race. Was good to see some new faces participate, hoping to see you folks in future races.
Some pics are below, including the final scores. NOTE: Doug Bruestle, one of the top racers in the area, was not able to participate in his segments due to a previous committment, thus the blank lap totals shown.
