RC REFURB NSR REGIONAL 2009 RESULTS
14 races from NY, PA, MD and NJ showed up, with the top 4 advancing to the 3/28/10 National Final at GTSLOTS in Philadelphia, PA. Hand out NSR Shark 20k motors that were pre-tested to be within a 3% variance in RPM were used, along with hand-out Super Tires. 1 minute qualifying segments were run to seed the starting order.
Prior to qualfiying, Carl "Sandbag" Bergen confided in a quiet voice: "I'm on a mission today..." Usually when Carl says that he's got a car that can do some damage, and his TQ for qualifying confirmed he was ready. Joining Carl in his segment were the other 3 top qualifiers, Joseph Rosales, Marcus Woodlyn, and Dave Davis.
James Drayton was the first to complete the 4 segments of 5 minutes on each lane, and took teh early lead with 64 laps. His lead lasted for 3 more segments, until Greg Davis had some consistent runs and took the lead with 66 laps.
A couple of rotations later, Carl Bergen started his run with an 18 lap run on the massive RC Refurb track, high lap total for the day. He kept up the pace, finishing with 17 laps on the remaining lanes.
Sandy Walden was the only other driver to put up 18 laps, but it wasn't enough as Carl took the win with 69 laps, besting 2nd place Joseph Rosales by 2 laps, followed by Marchus Woodlyn (no practice with a borrowed car), Robert Holt, and Greg Davis.
Bergen, Rosales, and Woodlyn advance to the NSR National Final. Since Robert Holt had qualified in a previous regional race, Greg Davis was the fourth qualifyer. Congrats to the winners, and all participants for a good race. Special congrats to Carl Bergen, who won a massive trophy along with a limited edition NSR Sunoco Porsche 917k. Carl had been in a previous regional with a car capable of winning, but had the misfortune of his motor pod cracking seconds into the first segment.
Thanks to Marcus, Greg and Marie from RC Refurb, Etc for putting on the race, and to GTSLOTS for support with motors and tires.
